Sadly we have lost many historic homes in Stratford due to fire. The home pictured was historically known as the Moon house. This home was built by John Moon who was for a number of years the town doctor, and owner of the Moon Hotel, later to be known as the Service House.
The home was built in the late 1890's, and was the home of the Moon family. The bottom floor was a store, with the family living on the second floor. Even though the property is on the west side of the East Canada Creek, the property is located in Fulton County and is taxed by Stratford, Fulton County.
This was not the first time that there had been a fire at this home. In the 1935 Stratford Central School yearbook there was a news notation about the house " Donald McClure heard two fire trucks go by on Saturday. They were going to the fire at Moon's".
